Paying Lady Justice

Since the 15th century, Lady Justice (who has aged remarkably well) has often been depicted wearing a blindfold. The blindfold represents objectivity, in that justice is or should be meted out objectively, without fear or favor, regardless of money, wealth, fame, power, or identity; blind justice and impartiality. And if there was a similar depiction of lawyers at trial, (in the minds of most people) it would probably show them happily filling their pockets.

Welcome to reality. Legal action costs American companies big money — billions annually according to the latest research figures from the U.S. Dept of Commerce. And retaining lawyers is a bit like countries acquiring nuclear weapons — they have theirs. so you’d darn well better have yours. When things get legal and go to trial, the meter is REALLY running on both sides.

Which is why according to the most recently-available statistics, about 95 percent of pending civil lawsuits end in a pre-trial settlement. But getting there for both sides is a delicate dance reminiscent of Belle and the Beast gliding across the animated (and now live-action) ballroom floor with ease. With any luck your attorney isn’t the Beast.

Dean Sperling understands. He knows that these matters can be nasty and stressful. And when that happens to YOUR business dealing with landlord/tenant matters, contract disputes or even collections, you really will want a lawyer like Dean who will work to resolve YOUR matter with YOUR best interests in mind. Sometimes that involves negotiating a settlement and sometimes it means having your day in court.

Because Lady Justice may be blind, but she will definitely send you a bill. Dean Sperling will make sure that bill is fair — and that’s about as balanced as the scales will ever get.
